Kindness is Everywhere at Lawrence Middle School
Lawrence Middle School Participates in Kindness Week in Honor of P.S. I Love You Day
LAWRENCE, NEW YORK (February 2022)—In honor of P.S. I Love You Day, Lawrence Middle School celebrated Friendship Week. The Service-Learning Club, advised by Lisa King, created a Wall of Kindness. Students were able to stop by and choose a Post-it note that spoke to them to keep or to share with a friend. The Service-Learning Club is a group of dedicated students who work together to come up with ways to help their school, students’ families, and the community.
P.S. I Love You Day is held every second Friday of February, created in honor of Brooke DiPalma’s late father, a retired NYPD officer who took his own life when she was only 14 years old. Soon after, P.S. I Love You Day became a movement in which schools across the country participate in kindness activities.
“It was truly amazing to see all our students and staff participate in P.S. I Love You Day,” said Willis Perry, Principal of Lawrence Middle School. “It is important that our students know that their mental well-being is just as important as their academics. This was a great opportunity to show everyone at our school that they are cherished.”
Students and staff were encouraged to wear something purple for P.S. I Love You Day to represent standing against bullying and fighting depression. Each class participated in discussions about mental health awareness and the Service-Learning Club members handed out stick-on paper hearts to all the students as they arrived at school.
