English

At Lawrence Middle School, teachers are focused on growing each learner's reading level, ability to analyze complex texts and communicate their thinking effectively through writing. Teachers routinely administer assessments to pinpoint the current strengths of each learner, as well as weaknesses, to drive focused instruction. Our English Language Arts department utilizes the Engage NY Common Core aligned Modules which can be accessed by clicking the link provided. By teaching this curriculum, students are instructed on all of the Reading, Writing, and Speaking standards outlined by Common Core and NY State standards. Our dedicated staff further supplements the curriculum with department made resources to further strengthen areas of weakness that students may have.

The National PTA has published the following Grade Level Guides based on the NYS Standards. Each guide provides an overview of what your child will learn by the end of the school year in English Language Arts and Mathematics.
