New York State Summer Reading
The importance of summer reading

Public libraries, through their summer reading programs, put books in the hands of children. This is the best antidote for the ‘summer slide’ in children’s reading achievement. Access to books and library programs over the summer results in more reading which, in turn, results in improved reading skills. -- Assistant Commissioner for Libraries and New York's State Librarian Bernard A. Margolis

Suggested Summer Reading booklists

Suggestions for Elementary & Tween Readers K - 2, 3 - 5, 6 - 8

Please note these are just suggestions. As parents/caregivers you know your children best. One of my guidelines here at school is that the main character should not be more than two years older than your reader.  You may also find good reviews to help you guide them at CommonSenseMedia.org, Scholastic.com and Amazon.com.
